Alaska swung open the heavy glass door, drawn in by the warm smell of bread and soup wafting out from Panera. She walked over to the end of the line, listening to the sound of her brown boots clacking on the floor. Ah, she loved that sound! She often would only buy a pair of boots if they made that sound. She had met some who found the clacking pesky, but the sound gave her an odd feel of power.
Her dark hazel eyes scanned the menu for the soup. Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice, just what she wanted to see! Her and her friend had developed a tradition of 'sharing a bread' on the first day of marking periods. A warm bowl of soup in a bread bowl, drinks, and a nice chat never failed to relieve the anxiety of a new semester. She looked over her shoulder nervously, praying Summer was arriving and rescuing her from standing alone on line.
Disappointed, the russet haired girl occupied herself with jingling the keys that hung around her tiny neck from a 'Go Army' lanyard. She took a few short steps forward to fill the gap left by the group of girls in front of her, and started to shift through her leather messenger bag for her wallet and Panera membership card.

Summer speed-walked into Panera. Her cat like blue eyes scanned the somewhat crowded room, looking for Alaska. She finally spotted her, waiting on line. "Alaska!" she called cheerily, briskly approaching her friend. Summer wiped the sweat off of her brow with her arm. "Sorry I smell like horse, I was just working with Thunderstruck. I was working on piaffes with him and he effing threw me off!" Summer complained, using hand motions to explain her story Italian-style. The smell of bread floating around Panera was making her extremely hungry. "Do you want me to get a table or wait here on line with you?" she asked.

The sound of her name turned her head. "Hey!" she greeted with equal excitement. She let out a giggle, "Oh gosh," she replied to Summers most recent fall. Alaska knew she should be concerned if Summer was alright, but the fact that she was here was enough consolation.
A serious look possessed Alaskas freckle covered face. She gently wrapped her hand around Summers elbow, restraining her. "No, don't leave me," she pleaded. Waiting on a line alone made Alaska extremely uncomfortable, and not without reason. She felt it gave the impression that she had to eat lunch alone, which was not the case.
The cashier called "next!", and Alaska hurried over. "Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice, in a bread bowl please," she asked, smoothing back her long auburn hair to fall into layers. Her hazel cat eyes flickered over to Summer. "Drink?" she offered, blindly handing the employee her membership card. It was important to stock up on points, it would result in lots of free food rewards through the school year.

"Hmm.... I'll take a small soda," Summer decided quickly, after stepping closer to the cash register along with Alaska. She fished her wallet out of her pocket, handing Alaska crisp dollar bills to pay for her drink and half of the cost of the meal. Summer's eyes drifted around the building to see if any booths were open; she loved sitting in booths. A sappy-sweet couple (who were making Summer jealous) departed from one of the booths and gathered their garbage and belongings. They exited Panera, holding hands. Summer squinted, trying to figure out who the people were. There were a ton of kids on campus though, identifying the couple would be almost impossible.

Alaska gave the cashier a friendly smile and provided a five dollar bill to complete the cost of the small meal. She gave the employee her name, and took the change and receipt.
She pranced over to Summer, noticing her friend looking somewhat longingly after the couple. "You'll have that before you know it," she comforted, very sure of her words. There were hundreds of boys on campus, and Summer was attractive, all she needed was to find the right guy.
Alaska took the other girl by the wrist, and started to guide her over to the booth the couple left open. She ungracefully slid into the cushioned seat, almost hitting her head on the wall. She smiled sheepishly at Summer.

Summer, in response to Alaska's mistake, began laughing hysterically. And loudly. Everyone was staring. Summer put her hands together and motioned the awkward turtle. "I'm going to go fill up my beverage," Summer said in a somewhat joking voice, trying to sound formal. She walked over to the soda machine, filled the plastic cup with Pepsi, and took a seat back down across from Alaska. "So what's up? How's school so far? Any cute guys in your classes?" Summer asked after getting comfortable in the booth. She took a quick sip of the cold soda.

While Summer went to fill her drink, Alaska heard her name called and went to collect the lunch. She slowly walked back to the table, concentrating on balancing the bread and soup on the tray. She lightly set down the tray on the center of the table. She smoothed back her hair, and made an effort to make less of a fool of herself as she sat down. She rubbed her hands together, and stripped the edge of the bread bowl off. She dipped the thin strip back into the bowl, waiting a moment for it to get soggy with the soup.
Summer sat down with her pepsi, and Alaska brought the bread to her thin lips to munch on. She covered her mouth with her left hand to hide the half chewed food, "I didnt really get a chance to look around. But Xanthis isnt really known for cute boys... which makes me wonder what your brother is doing here," Alaska teased after she swallowed. An honest perk of being Summers friend was VIP access to her brother, Trey.
She lifted her right hand, and wiped a nonexistent dribble of soup off her cheek. She reached her hand across the table. "What a cool cup!" she exclaimed, snatching Summers drink. She 'inspected' the glass, and then put her lips to the straw to take a big sip of the dark sugary liquid.

(OOC: lolol "VIP access to her brother")
Summer laughed softly about Alaska's comment on her brother. She used to feel a little awkward when people made comments about Trey, but she was beginning to get used to it.
"Oh yes, that is a very cool cup," Summer joked. She ripped off a piece of bread and dipped it in the soup. "You know what I think we need to do? Throw a party or go clubbing with people. This campus has been really...dry lately," she said before plopping the piece of bread in her mouth and chewing it daintily.

Alaska gulped down the sweet drink, and put the cup down on Summers side of the table. She tore off a piece of bread and twirled it around in the ugly soup, scooping up chunks. "Hahaha throw a party? I dont think we are 'those' sort of people," Alaska reminded. She munched down on the bread, and wiped her lips with a napkin lightly. It was very hard to look somewhat attractive while eating this food, Alaska was starting figure out.

"I've been to plenty of parties - didn't you come with me?" Summer asked. "I'm pretty sure you did. If you came, you must have been too drunk to remember even going," she joked with a laugh. She dipped another piece of bread in the bread bowl.
"By the way, remember my old room mate and how she transferred? I have a new roomie now," Summer said, blinking her long dark lashes.
